Meeting with our perfumer, Caroline

Caroline is much more than a perfumer for Cocoon Paris. Her affinity with the project was immediate and during a work with us of more than a year on olfactory compositions creating well-being, she got to know us very well. Caroline has become over time a true accomplice, a precious and inspiring ally for us and our Brand. Her gentleness, her meticulousness and her passion for her profession still fascinate us every day. We wanted to introduce her to you and invite you to a meeting in complete privacy.

How did you initiate your olfactory creative process for Cocoon Paris?

Creating a fragrance for a yoga brand involves exploring the sensory experiences associated with this practice in their smallest facets and subtly appreciating the vision of the Brand. With Constance and Roxane, we talked at length about the philosophy, principles and values of the Brand. We then determined together the objective of the fragrances for each of the products and after reflecting on several creative axes, we settled on the heart of Cocoon Paris' vision when it comes to yoga: the concept of the inner journey that leads to reconnection with oneself.

A journey to which it seemed obvious to us to associate inspiring elements offered by our Mother Nature. I conducted a lot of research on the different types of meditation and relaxation that allowed me to immerse myself in these universes.

Guided by this notion of inner journey, I explored the multiple possibilities offered by plants, herbs, incense and essential oils which are traditionally linked to the practice of yoga and relaxation.

Several working sessions were necessary to more precisely define the specific universes associated with the different yoga practices: with the desire to define for each their olfactory personality.

And of course, each exploration gave rise to new exchanges with the founders and with yogis passionate about their respective practices.

What do you like most about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is the moment of sharing the first perfume samples with customers. I love capturing their first spontaneous reactions , listening to their interpretations and the evocations generated by the olfactory composition that I have proposed to them.

It is the beginning of a privileged exchange, of a very special and intimate communication which is formed around a perfume.

It’s a way to create connections, to share emotional moments but also to open up new perspectives .

Each person has their own olfactory sensitivity that colors their perception and interpretations of a perfume. It is incredibly fascinating to observe how contact with a fragrance promotes the return of old memories and generates emotional feelings and sensations that are different for each individual.

These exchanges with customers around perfumes are incredibly enriching for them as well as for me. They also allow me to refine my compositions and offer fragrances that correspond in every way to their needs and their personality.

What is your Proust madeleine?

Whenever I smell the aroma of baked apples, I am immediately transported back to my childhood, to my mother’s kitchen. It is a smell that evokes sweet and comforting memories. Baked apples were a dessert that my mother often made, and the scent wafted throughout our home in Grasse. The sweet and spicy scent had the power to create a magical and comforting atmosphere . It is a smell that takes me back to a simpler time, when the little pleasures in life were the most important.

How do you use essential oils in your compositions for Cocoon Paris?

In our search for Cocoon Paris ambiances, I explored both natural ingredients and olfactory compounds to create a unique sensory experience . I chose natural ingredients, such as lavender, incense, sage, peppermint and sandalwood, which are associated with different moments of relaxation . This is how we defined our “moments” for each Roll On variation.

Chamomile, for example, is known for its calming and relaxing properties. Its sweet scent can help calm the mind and promote a sense of tranquility . I selected a chamomile essential oil for the composition of Instant Douceur.

Incense, on the other hand, is often used in meditation rituals because of its mystical and spiritual aroma. It is said to promote concentration and elevation of the mind, which is precisely what is needed during a Yin session.

What commitments do you make when composing your perfumes?

Cocoon Paris defines itself as a brand that creates well-being , 100% made in France, so it was essential to have an eco-responsible approach right from the design of the scents.

In order to guarantee impeccable ethics , I have opted for the total elimination of ingredients of animal origin.

Furthermore, ingredient transparency is also a fundamental value in my conception of perfumery. I want to offer our consumers total traceability of the components used in our products.
